Boxing and fat loss.

I’ve been doing a CKD for the last 3 weeks with minimal results – the transition into ketosis has been slow as well. I’m returning to boxing after an injury next week. Will a carb rich boxers diet still help me lose fat and get leaner with 2 hours of intense boxing training 3 days a week?

Answer:

Absolutely! Boxing training is very intense and involves both cardiovascular and resistance training. Combining cardio, with exercises that build and maintain strength, is the ideal combination for losing fat, as either alone will yield poor results in the long term. If you are following a healthy diet you should see the results!

Belly wont’ go away…

Hello, I’m a male, 37yo, 5’9”. I’m 154 lb, but I set my weight to be around 145 lb. I do exercise at least 4 times per week, running in average 40-50 km per week. I eat mainly vegetables, chicken, tuna, fruits, grains, etc. My weight is OK , even a little bit on the skinny side, but I cannot get ride of my belly. What kind of foods would you recommend to avoid in order to make my belly disappear??

Answer:

Without looking at your diet in more detail I cant give you any specifics. The first thing I would normally suggest is to check your alcohol consumption, but I can see from your profile you are not consuming much. I would suggest you look at how much fiber you are consuming in your diet. Men should be aiming for around 38 grams of fiber per day. Fiber is very important in regulating blood sugar levels and insulin. Fiber slows the rate of digestion of food and in turn helps prevent excess fat gain. Consuming a fiber rich diet will over time help reduce your belly fat, especially if you are engaging in regular exercise. Look at each meal of day breakfast, dinner and lunch and then see how much fiber you consume. For example many breakfast cereals are low in fiber and high in sugar and can lead to fat gain. Oatmeal, Bran flakes, All-bran are all very high in fiber and thus provide a slow source of energy. Try to aim to consume a rich source of fiber with each meal. If you are eating bread, opt for whole grain brown bread ideally with seeds added. if you are having a salad, make sure it has more than just lettuce which is relatively low in fiber, add some peppers, celery, radicchio which have more fiber. If you can actively focus on consuming a good source of fiber with each meal and avoiding eating snacks without fiber this will help. Also if you are currently doing aerobic exercise on a regular basis, I would also suggest trying to add some kind of weight bearing exercise to your routine also. Combining weights and cardio have much more synergistic benefits together than when either are done alone.

Should i do p90x when trying to lose fat?

Is there a point in doing p90x, when my goal is to lose my gut? cause i feel the program is designed to gain muscle and you can’t do that if you’re eating too little. This i my fat loss diet Breakfast: Protein shake and an apple, or eggs and low carb bread Lunch: whatever they serve at school, i try to keep it as healthy as possible Snack around 15.00: just an apple, protein shake Dinner: fish with brown rice or whole bread, chicken breast with veggies or beef mince with whole bread At around 20.00: casein shake Any tips or changes I should make? Am I not losing fat because i’m eating to little and my metabolism slows down or what?

Answer:

I think you should definitely give it a go. P90X will most likely help you loose fat ANYWHERE basically. And if it doesn’t work the area you are trying to loose fat from (which I doubt) it still is a great program on its own! You will most likely get abs, tone your legs and pretty much get ripped if you follow the diet they have. On the other hand, you have a great diet but if you drink protein shakes and never work out, you will most likely gain fat rather than loosing it. Give it a go and let me know! 🙂

Answer:

unfortunately you cannot spot reduce fat. but by tweaking your diet and exercise regime, it can help you out. eat lean protein (eggs, fish, chicken breast, steak, beans), heaps of veggies, some fruit. if you’re going to eat bread, pasta or rice make sure it’s brown or wholemeal. cut out all sugar. decrease portion sizes. just because chicken breast, for example, is healthy, it does not mean you can have 10 pieces day. drink nothing but water! do not even drink diet soft drinks! increasing fibre and use of spices like cinnamon and cayenne pepper will also be ideal. have 5-6 smaller meals a day, rather than 3 big ones if you’d prefer. this way you are regularly eating and won’t feel deprived. healthy fats like olive oil, avocado, raw nuts and seeds and low-fat diary (especially unsweetened Greek or natural yoghurt) is great for belly fat loss. to form your dinner and lunch-time meals, get an average sized plate. fill half of it with veggies (raw or cooked), fill 1/4-1/2 of your plate with lean protein (eggs, fish, chicken etc). if you’re going to eat carbs (pasta, potatoes, bread etc.), then put enough protein that covers 1/4 of your plate and fill the other 1/4 of your plate with the carbs of your choice. this is a good and versatile guideline. also do cardio. go for long, power walks or run. try aim for 45 minutes a day 5 days a week. if you find this too overwhelming then start with 2 days a week and slowly increase your frequency and duration. do cardio first thing in the morning.. set your alarm and just go for it. squats, running/walking uphill, lunges (lower body) and situps, reverse crunches, planks (abs) are muscle exercises are great for toning… although toning exercises will not specifically make you lose fat, they will increase muscle and make you look firmer and toned. make this more of a lifestyle than a diet just to lose weight before school…. do not starve yourself, just eat healthy food.

Weight loss/exercise plan for a 17 year old female?

I’m a 17 year old girl and I weigh about 135 but I’m only 5’4″ and start school on August 19th. I really want to go back to school with a toned stomach but I’m not really sure where to start or what is gonna help me the most, in losing maybe 5-10 lbs and tone/strengthen my muscles, in as many areas as possible. Any suggestions?

Answer:

rope jumping is an excellent exercise because it let you lose weight evenly throughout your whole body. If you want to lose weight in specific areas, you should target them with exercises. If they are your problem areas, they will be very difficult to tone. You will have to work double on them. The best approach is this: 1. Lower/control your daily calorie intake (control for normal weight, lower for overweight). 2. Rope jump to lower your overall body fat percentage. 3. Target your problem areas with exercises. an excellent exercise, you can do it in front of your TV: sit on a stool, and put your toes under something (piece of heavy furniture, for example). In your hands hold a little dumbbell. Please, make sure that it is not very heavy, start with one kilo, for example, or you will damage your back and spine! Slowly move the upper part of your body back, until it’s parallel with the ground. Stop for a second and move it back to the sitting position. Repeat ten times. Every week add to the number of repetitions. You will see the results in a week, guaranteed! Your stomach would be flatter and stronger. Dumbbells do wonders. Much better than these crunches – I came up to three hundreds and there was no results AT ALL. With the dumbbells you will see it in a week.

I want to be thin but I don’t my Easting Disorder back?

I want to be thin has been every waking thought of mine since I was 13 yes I dish out advice about how bad eating disorders are because I have had some sort of eating disorder since then. At the moment I am quite stable and eating 1500 kcals a day and I have lost 34lb but the thoughts are coming back some days I restrict and others I just catch myself walking around supermarkets just looking at food picking it up reading labels and putting it back wanting to binge and purge but I don’t I just don’t want the feelings there anymore Highest weight : 206lbs Lowest weight:113lbs Current weight: 172lbs (disgusting I know) I need help Current Goal weight: 130lbs (I know I want to be lower than that but I know that that is a healthy weight for me) I am 5ft7in tall and 23 I just dont know how to lose the weight without falling back into the ED trap again

Answer:

Hey hun, it’s great that you’re aware of eating disorders and that you don’t want the eating disorder back. 172 pounds is not disgusting. 130 pounds seems like a reasonable goal, but even 140-150 pounds is healthy. If you want to loose some weight do it the healthy way, eating healthy foods and letting yourself have moderate treats and exercising. I find that if I restrict I just end up binging and I put the weight back on. Exercise is a great way to loose weight plus you can eat more, 1500-2000 calories, depending on hoe much exercise you do. I’m try to loose weight, I’m around 163 pounds and the same height as you, I’m trying to loose weight slowly but surely. I let myself have treats, yesterday I ate a bit too much, but I’m not beating myself up about it. I let myself have things in moderation. There wasn’t much to eat in the house so I had a small packet of crisps and some chicken. 113 pounds isn’t a healthy weight at all and is too low for you, no wonder you gained some of the weight back. When you restrict yourself you finally end up gaining weight back. I once got skinny and restricted myself too much and ended up putting on some of the weight. Now I want to get back to my original weight but slowly. You’ve still come really far, you’re still 2 and half stone lighter from your heaviest weight! 12 stone 4 isn’t fat, when I was 12 stone 4 i didn’t look that overweight. It’s healthier than 113 pounds (8 stone 1). Super skinny isn’t always attractive and guys like women who are healthy. Starving yourself and being obsessing with being skinny takes over your life and makes you miserable. It made me miserable. You can still be thin, but eat a healthy diet allowing yourself treats and not letting yourself go hungry. Slow but sure weight loss is the best! I’m a UK size 12, but aiming for an 8/10, but I’m not killing myself to get there. I’ll be happy with a size 10 which is realistic and healthy. Guy don’t want miserable skinny girls who push salad around on a plate and talk about their weight only. They’d rather a girl whose a healthy weight and size and have a healthy attitude to food. Maybe seeing a counsellor will help. I have body image issues too like you and I’m going to have therapy to overcome my issues. I too obsess about weight loss and what I eat. I have bad days and good days. I understand exactly how you feel sweeties, I too have these issues and it’s really time consuming and makes me feel miserable. I am learning a healthier approach to body image and eating, but I still find it hard thus enrolling myself for therapy. I hope you get the help you need. Hope I helped 🙂

Eating or drinking Aloe Vera gel/juice?

I was reading and I seen that some people make Aloe Vera juice and drink it. It’s said to be sort of a cleanse/laxative and it boosts your metabolism. You cut it open and scrape the gel out and blend it into whatever you want to eat/drink it with. I would be doing it for weight loss and all over good results on my body. I also exercise regularly but since I have a slow metabolism it gets frustrating. What do you think about this? Have you tried it? Tell me what you think! Thank you!

Answer:

Aloa vera juice is good for you but it only scratches the surface as to what you can do….are you overweight? If so where do you have your fats on your body? If you want to do something that goes straight to your speeding up your metabolism, try iodine…please avoid iodised salt…go to a herbal store and ask for iodine….they will tell you how to take it….it helps your thyroid gland produce the hormone you need to regulate metabolism

How to lose fat and maintain muscle strength with minimal loss?

I’d like to lose some fat but due to sports it wouldn’t be wise to diet and risk losing muscle

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

To lose fat you can either eat less or do cardio to burn more calories. A pound of fat is 3500 calories. If you drop your daily intake by 500 cals, then you’ll be losing 1 pound of fat ever 7 days, which is a good rate in my opinion. Eventually you’ll hit a plateau, that’s when you drop your calories again. The trick is to do it slowly to avoid sending your body into starvation mode, where it starts holding on to the fat. To maintain muscle mass, do weight training, lift heavy (8-12 reps). You body will not break down muscles if it needs them.

Is there a possible way to lose body fat without exercise?

So I’m on this diet known as the “liquid diet”, where most of your calorie intake comes from liquids and you even use liquids as meals alone. Now I’m not taking it to the extreme like that, but I’m just eating a lot less food and am binging a lot less often. I still eat breakfast, dinner, and lunch, but I don’t eat too much and I don’ have snacks. I drink tea/water, and so far this is helping me a lot. However I think that I need more than just the liquid diet for an effective fat loss. Aside from exercising is there any other method for fat loss? I’m more concerned about losing body fat than weight. Thanks.

Answer:

You have to eat healthy, not use fad diets. Healthy diet is about 80% of weight loss. Learn about a type of eating called clean eating. You cut out all sweet, fried, processed, junk, and fast foods. Have lots of different fresh fruits and veggies along with moderate amounts of whole grains and lean protein. Drink just plain water, and plenty of it.
