Can you build lean muscle while losing fat?

Im really curious about this question because of my own experience. Before I knew about caloric suprluses and deficits, I was building muscle while eating under 2500 calories. And im sure of that. Im 6’0 and 165lbs if anyone’s asking. So I’m aiming to lose 15 pounds in two months but also want to build lean muscle (hypertrophy). If I eat a sufficient amount of protein in my diet is muscle building possible?

Answer:

Physical exercise is more welcome than sticking to some foods. Never overdo with the latter.

How does this Lemon Diet work?

Finding it really difficult to know what to do during this lemon diet, every article on it i read says different things. I thought you can’t eat for 10 days just drink 6-12 glasses of lemon juice a day? That’s what i’m doing at the moment, i’ve just had one glass of it and it’s all i will eat/drink for 10 days. It’s supposed to be a fast weight loss technique because it rids the body of all your toxins ect. Am i doing it right? 18 Years old, 12st 11lbs

Answer:

no, you aren’t doing it right. By doing this stupid lemon diet, like with any crash diet designed to make you lose weight fast, you’re damaging your body. You’re depriving your body of the nutrients it needs and your quick weight loss means you’re going to lose a lot of muscle mass, making you weak, tired and susceptible to infections and terrible headaches. Stick to a balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and veg, protein, drink lots of water and exercise regularly. By doing this, your body will rid itself of toxins in a healthy way and you’ll feel great, and look great.

Why aren’t I losing weight?

So I’m almost fifteen, and I’m a girl, about 167cm tall. I’m 68 kilograms, even though I exercise constantly and eat healthily and am fairly fit. Sorry this is long but please read! And also sorry for inappropriate use of semi colons haha… My exercise during the week goes something like this: Monday; gym session, which involves doing squats with 5kg weights on each side of my shoulders (about 40 reps all up), 40kg chest presses and other weights, rowing machine as high as it can go for about 10 min, maybe the stepping machine for about 10 minutes, then treadmill running at 10 k per hour for at least 20 minutes straight, plus jogging and walking with incline up real high. Tuesday; bit sore from Monday so focus mainly on cardio, not weights. Wednesday; part-time job so can’t go to gym but try get in some crunches and squats (which I try to do everyday). Thursday; netball training which can be quite hard at times, have to do sprints etc. Friday; another gym sesh similar to Monday but usually a bit shorter. Saturday; netball, not that exhausting because I don’t need to run much in my position. Sunday; rest day. Usual Weekday Food: Brekky; usually an egg on multigrain toast. Snack; apple or five strawberries Lunch; cold meat with salad Snack; small multigrain bar Dinner; whatever we’re having, usually LOTS of protein. This has been exercise regime/normal diet for a few months and I HAVE lost some weight (3 kilos) but stopped weight loss a while ago.

Answer:

I see that your food diary is rather not specific enough. If you exercise regularly with the right intensity then it must be your food intake that is the problem. Try to carefully write down everything you had consumed in a day, and sometimes you might surprise yourself by the amount at the end of the day (I did that). Also, having a good knowledge about each food’s calories, portions, saturated fat, etc will def help you on your weight loss.

How do I stay on a diet at a sleepover?

I want to go to a sleepover party but the thing is im on a diet we will probably have pizza for dinner, ice cream or cake for dessert, several snacks throughout the night and I doubt any of them will be a healthy thing like yogurt or an apple. I don’t know what to do, I really want to go!

How much weight will I lose on a low GI diet? Will it make me feel better inside?

So I need to lose weight. Not only because I am unhappy and obese (according to the BMI chart I am over 30) but also because of health complications. I am a female, 19, 190 lbs, 5′ 6. I have tried multiple diets e.g. Atkins, Weightwatchers and more but those diets really restricted me and I ended up giving up. I am going to Paris to be an aupair on the 31st of August. I need to be slimmer than I am now to have confidence and to do my job properly. Not only do I want to lose weight kind of fast but I also want to feel more confident. Does the GI diet make you feel better inside? I have IBS. Will it give me the energy I need to function properly? I have Anxiety and Panic disorder and I really want to lessen my chances of having an attack. Will my sleep improve? Thank you in advance for answering my question 🙂

Answer:

GI or glycemic index refers to how quickly the food is broken down and used in your body. For example white bread has a higher gi than whole wheat bread so white bread spikes your blood sugar and te carbs are broken down very quickly. Wheat bread having a lower GI can keep you full longer and have more energy from the steady release of carbs. That diet is not necessary for you to lose weight. If you incorporate low GI foods into a healthy balanced meal diet you will lose weight. Also you need to be doing some type of exercise to get results. By eating more requently throughout the day (at least 4-5 meals) with balanced nutrients (lean protein, veggies, some unsaturated fats, and complex or low GI carbs such as brown rice) this along with at least 5 days of getting moving and working out and you will see results soon :). Also, by converting to a more natural balanced meal healthy diet a lot of health issues can e managed more easily, so maybe that will help your conditions :).

How to lose weight/ resist temptations?

I’m trying to diet by eating like healthy natural non packaged food, but I always give into my cravings for junk! My mum always takes me and my sister to like 711 or something, and that makes it really hard… I do some exercise, and I also RIPSTICk for about 20 minutes after school. I weigh myself every night and it’s just getting worse. I’m getting really frustrated and upset, and I hate it! My friends are all so skinny, and we have piggy back races at school and every time I’m on the top they can never carry me. I feel like absolute crap about it, and sometimes selfharm over it. I need to lose weight, fast. Any tips on how to resist cravings and lose the weight?

Answer:

Every body is different but I have a tip that helps to lose weight. Honey and cinnamon cleanse every morning, on an empty stomach, half an hour before breakfast, and again at night before sleeping. Drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup water. If taken regularly it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also drinking of this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body, even though the person may eat a high calorie diet. 1 teaspoons of ground cinnamon and 2 teaspoons of honey in a cup of boiled water.

How much does diet and exercise affect growth?

I’m 13 and want to get taller, and heavier for football. I was wondering how much does diet, exercise, and sleep affect growth, or is it 99% genetics.

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

genetics dictates your potential, but to be able to reach your max height potential, the biggest factors are proper diet and getting enough sleep. you need to make sure you eat well balanced meals and get enough calories so your body has what it needs to grow. Also your long bones like in your arms and legs (which effect height) can only grown when your body is at rest, so without getting enough sleep you can stunt your growth. exercise really has nothing to do with your height, but it does help you develop strength and fitness. however excessive amounts of activity without eating enough can cause your body to burn too many calories and your body may not have all it needs for proper development, but if you eat enough this isnt a problem.

Is this a good 200 calorie diet plan?

DO NOT DO THIS. There are no nutrients in cucumbers or pickles except salt. If you eat this diet you will become malnourished and may end up in the hospital.

How do I see weight loss results?

So this is my first week of working out and trying to eat better and I was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea about how long it will take to see actual results. My goal is to lose 15 pounds by December (I have a wedding to attend and why not get fit before the New Year?). Is this a realistic goal? What do you guys suggest I do as far as diet/exercise go? Thanks so much in advance! 🙂

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

That’s a definitely a goal you can achieve by December. You can lose 1-2 pounds a week at a healthy rate. Just eat 500 calories under your maintenance (Use a Calorie Calculator online to find out). Please do weight training it isn’t only for guys, it burns more calories than flopping around on the treadmill 1-2 hours a day.
