What item at GNC can help me burn fat and gain muscle?

I went to gnc and asked the salesman if there was a supplement or powder that can help me burn fat and gain muscle at a faster rate during my workouts. i used xenadrine and didn’t like it that much and he just recommended hydroycut and it has no effect what so ever so can any body recommend something else.

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

Thermogenics (Xenadrine, Hydroxycut, etc..) do give you more energy it seems, but hard work and the right diet is the only true way to accomplish your goals. If you are trying to gain muscle you have to remember the most important meal of the day (of the 6 healthy ones you should be having) is your post workout meal. It is the ONLY time you should be eating simple carbs! You should have at least 20 grams of whey protein and about 40 to 50 grams of carbs. Your muscles are starving after a workout and this is what they are craving. As far as burning fat, Cardio! 30 to 45 minutes a day. Good luck.

I’m 15 years old and overweight?

Hi im around 5’8 and 200 lbs o.O… I am very curious about my weight at the moment. I play lots of sports, and I can actually play them really well and I am very active as well. I eat decently healthy, but would like to know what I should be eating on a daily basis (school lunches, breakfast, after school, dinner). I love soccer VERY MUCH, and nobody at school makes fun of my weight, it’s just that I want to lose it for my own sake, and so that I can become a better sprinter and higher endurance for soccer, and just to be healthier in general. I don’t know what exercises and eating habits I should be doing. I also don’t know what I should be doing to gain muscle and lose weight. I am willing to do anything to get in shape for soccer because I really think I could be way better if I wasn’t as big. Also even though I play soccer my family is naturally bigger on the bottom half, (Bum, thighs, legs) so I think I just need to lose body fat cause I have naturally big strong legs. My dad is also 6’4 and has legs like tree trunks and super built without being very active. Also I haven’t gone through puberty so could it be baby fat still? I just need to help with dieting and exercise, and I want to find out how I can change myself 🙁

Answer:

The big reason of gaining weight is how much you eat in calories vs. how many calories you burn off in a day. You say you do lots of sports, so you must be eating more than you are burning off. Start by cutting out ‘junk food’ – chips, sodas, fast food, etc. Before you know it you will start to loose some weight.

Should I incorporate a whey protein shake into my fat burning exercises?

Right now I weigh about 185 pounds. I realize i am going to have to get my body fat % to a lower number before i start weight training even more. So should I drink Whey Protein while I do my fat burning routines? Will the protein help me burn fat faster? Thanks.

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

Whey is absolutely no good for you! I weight lift and play high school soccer so trust me on this. Why? It’s a long story but if you read this book called “The China Study,” you’ll understand. Infact don’t listen to the public, the best protein powder on the market is hemp and behind it soy. Hemp protein is packed with much more amino acids and such, won’t make you fat, and it helps with muscle recovery. If you want to speed up your metabolism and burn fat, I would also highly recommend acai berry. If you can’t afford hemp go with soy, and I’ll quickly give you a list of foods that will help speed up your metabolism to burn fat. 1. Grapefruit 2. Acaiberry 3. Cooked spinach> raw spinach

How can I burn fat and not muscle?

I am losing weight, but I have a scale that also measures the percentage of body fat. My percentage of body fat is staying the same, even though I am indeed losing weight. This can only mean one thing: I am apparently losing muscle mass and not actual fat. Can anyone give me some info or tips on how I can burn fat and not muscle? Thanks!

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

as i am a personal trainer/fitness expert my professional opinion is that if your losing weight, via increased exercise and change of diet, your 90%-100% not losing muscle mass. My best bet is that your scales arent not accurate. However its still possible to lose muscle mass if your calorie intake is very low, which tends to happen when your on a diet, people tend to count calories, but yet do not consume enough, you should see a nutritionist, or dietician to give to correct advise when it comes to what yous should be eating when losing weight. Even though your probably dieting, you still need to consume a good number of calories because your body works from energy thats stored in them. People who usually diet constantly make this mistake. They minimise the amount of calories they consume which allows them to lose weight, but unfortunately, they do not lose fat, but muscle. This is a problem because muscle is the easiest way to lose weight then actual “fat” exercise tips for burning fat, but containing muscle *Make sure you are doing some form of heavy resistance (weight) training to maintain your muscle mass *Try to utilise cardio training at least every other day to keep your metabolism raised at all times *Get a good rest and recovery; not resting enough will cause fatigue and its difficult to burn energy

Will I lose weight if I cut my calorie intake?

I am 16 years old, 5’7 – 5’8 in height, and weigh a disgusting (I do not have a scale at the moment) 200-210 pounds 🙁 I’m sick of being fat and ugly. I am currently trying to lose weight, I want to be 160 pounds by January of next year (January 2013). I got an app on my Android phone called “Lose It!” And it has advised me to cut my calorie intake to 1,432 calories a day. I’m not sure how many calories I consumed before, but it wasn’t 1,432 calories c: Probably 2,000+ I’m not sure. I do exercise every once in awhile, but I really dread exercise. If I were to simply reduce my calorie intake, would I be able to lose the weight? I am looking in to swimming, but I have to find the money to buy a swimsuit first, because I absolutely HATE running. I have flat feet, which makes it hard to run, and I got blisters all over my feet the last time I ran. Which was two days ago. So in conclusion. Could I drop to 160 pounds (lose 40-50 pounds) by January if I just cut my calorie intake to 1,432 calories daily, without exercise? Thank you so much 😀 And any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! ~Kat c:

Good workouts for slimming down obliques?

specifically near the hips

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

If you are worried about your waist size it is probably an issue of body fat, not the oblique muscles we are dealing with. If this is true doing oblique ab exercises won’t help much, as they will only make the oblique muscles bigger and ab exercises don’t often burn too many calories on their own. So unless you are already at a really low percentage of body fat (>10%) then you are out of luck, working out oblique muscles won’t give you that much of a noticeable difference. If you are not, however, then just losing weight will make your waist smaller. To that end only diet and exercise can help you; you need to burn more calories than you eat. So in short, the best exercises you can do to slim down obliques (assuming you mean love handles again, not the actual oblique muscles) is really just more high intensity stuff like cardio or weight lifting while you reduce how many calories you eat.

The cold water warm water thing. Is it true that it is better to drink room temp water as opposed to ice cold?

I have heard that cold water makes you retain more fat than room temp or warmer water. I think it’s a load, but I would like to know for sure. I like my water as cold as possible.

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

What is best is drinking water whatever temperature you like it. It’s more a matter of personal taste and upbringing. Personally, I like my water at room temperature which is colder than my body temperature (98.6 °F – 37.0 °C) so it’s refreshing. I don’t like icy cold water which can damage your teeth enamel and can cause teeth pain. I occasionally use ice cubes but for cocktails, not water. I’m French but I live in the US and all the Americans I know need ice cubes all the time. The few calories your body would need to heat ice cold water or to cool down hot beverages are really so negligible that you cannot even measure it scientifically. It’s like trying to hide the forest behind a tree. The forest being a healthy diet and being physically active…that’s how you lose body fat, 3,500 calories of exercising at a time to lose each pound. It’s the same kind of myth that believing eating spicy food will help you lose weight…I cannot handle spicy food. I feel that my mouth is on fire and I start sweating but that does not mean I’m burning much more calories because I’m not sweating in my THR zone (Target Heart Rate) while doing aerobics. Another myth is tea or other diuretics. You lose a lot of total body weight but you’re just losing heavy water weight and dehydrating…that’s not good.

How long would it take to lose 10 pounds?

to maintain my weight, i would need 1400 calories. i want to lose at least 10 pounds, but im not going under 1200 calories a day. so say i eat 1200 calories a day, how long would it

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

It’ll take you about a month to lose 10 pounds in a healthy way. If you want to lose weight, you need to two things: eat less and exercise more. Weight gain happens when you create a calorie surplus (eat more than you burn). Your body takes the excess calories and converts them to fat which get stored around your stomach, arms and thighs. The longer you remain in a calorie surplus, the more weight you’ll gain. To lose that weight, you need to do the opposite. You need to create a calorie deficit (start eating less than you burn). Your first step is to figure out how many calories you burn on a daily basis. This calculator will help you out The number you get from this tool is what your body burns on a daily basis. To lose weight, simply eat less. It sounds a lot easier than it is but making small changes helps you adjust to a new lifestyle. Don’t think of this as a diet, think of it as a new life. Instead of eating foods high in sugars, white flour and saturated fat, go with fruits, vegetables, whole wheats, fish, lean meats, nuts and beans. In addition to eating less, you also need to exercise more. Start off at 1-2 times per week and work your way up to 3-5 times per week. Don’t make all of these changes at once or you won’t be able to properly adjust to them. Generally, eating healthier foods will decrease your calorie intake. Compare a doughnut to an apple and you’ll see that healthy foods are lower in calories. You can find some more information at the Beginner’s Guide to Dieting – Beginner’s Guide to Dieting -.***:D

Can human fat be streamed or cooked out?

If a person was to go over and over into a steam sauna would the fat be streamed or melted away? I don’t mean all at once, but over a period of time would the fat get soft and melt out?

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

No it wouldn’t melt per say if you want to lose weight i know that typically 50% of the calories are used to maintain body temperature. It really would be a better investment in time to just walk or something instead which would burn more calories. A good rule of thumb to note is that sugar has 1 bond of carbon which means easy to breakdown and low energy gain. Carbs 2 bonds of carbon harder to breakdown and medium energy gain. Fat 3 bonds hardest to breakdown and highest energy gain. To cool down the body it typically requires for body processes to slow down and also for you to sweat. To heat up though requires energy to compensate for the deficit of energy. It may be better to walk or jog in a cold environment but also note that most people die from hypothermia without realizing it until it’s too late bring a source of heat such as a heat pack in case it gets too cold. Fat is a chemical make up of 3 carbon bonds and then continuously linked with energy stored in the bonds. Your body doesn’t break fat apart unless it really needs it and it’s mostly run out of sugar or carbs. Fat is only broken apart by certain chemical processes at least safely and it does not break apart from just raw heat.
