Answer:

i lost 6 lbs in the first week. i’ll warn you though, that you really really need to stick with it once you start in order to consistently lose AND keep it off. I was all pumped having lost the 6 lbs and stopped after the second week, considering it a nice ‘jump start’ and nothing more, planning to continue on my own using regular diet and excercise…well…i gained the 6 lbs back in the blink of an eye. (and wasnt even being ‘bad’, i was working out and eating healthy). my advice: just go with a regular routine diet where you watch your caloric intake, quicker and more effective in the long run!!

What foods can you eat on the atkins diet?

Does it work? How long will it take me to lose 10 pounds? Thanks!

Answer:

I never tried it so I don’t know if it’ll work… I did wanna try it before but I was really dizzy after the first day and decided to stop… I guess you should eat everything high in protein but no carbs like boiled eggs, cheese, chicken breast (boiled or grilled), etc.

Anyone had succsess on the Atkins diet, how long does it take to start working?

Me and my husband have been on the Atkins diet for 5 days now, I know that’s not very long but on the first days I almost felt fatter I keep weighing myself and I haven’t lost a pound and neither has my husband. I have been riding a stationary bike for 30 minutes a day, and I am trying to keep to the diet. I haven’t cheated on it at all. How long does it take to start seeing results? I’m not looking for anything big, just want to see it go down a few so I know I’m doing it right. I don’t feel like I’m on a diet, I think thats why I haven’t given up yet I guess. I’m not hungry at all and that’s awesome

Answer:

Atkins almost works immediately because it throws your body into a state of ketosis. It fails miserably as a long-term solution for weight control. Several lawsuits have failed against the Atkins empire because of “freedom of speech laws” and some carefully worded warnings in his books. Most major health organizations have strongly criticized the diet as being unsupported by scientific evidence and dangerous to your health. Dr. Atkins himself died a wealthy fat man. He experienced a heart attack several years before his death. Given the huge profits to be made by the meat and dairy industry and the food industry, the so-called ‘low carb’ diet continues to be promoted in media. The most rapid weight loss can be achieved through a water fast as described by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. If you have the money, you can travel to a resort setting and allow on-site doctors to monitor your progress as you consume only pure water. They will make sure you do not run into health issues through the fast. Classes during your stay at the resort also teaches you to consume a whole plant based diet. Long-term, a “whole plant based diet” is more effective and lasting. The only side effect is greater energy, mental alertness, and health. For my money, I’d choose a diet that is optimal for health and optimal for BMI improvement and maintenance.

How long will it take for me to start losing weight on the Atkins diet?

I am a 25 year old female and I weigh 225 pounds. I go the gym 4- 5 times a week and I would like to lose as much as possible by October. I am going to start the Atkins diet but I am curious to see how many people have gone on this diet and how much they have lost. Please let me know if you have tried it and motivate me by your success story!!!!

Answer:

Good Luck! I did the diet and lost more than ten pounds in the first two weeks. The first few days were hard as my body adjusted to the change, but after that I felt so good, I didn’t even care if I lost weight – but I did keep losing. Almost every morning, the scale dropped a bit – a pound, a half a pound every day. And I was never hungry! You have to eat the foods they tell you to, but you can have as much as you want. I really believe that Dr. Atkins was right in that you need to eat a little fat to feel full, and then you won’t make yourself crazy and binge. A salad with creamy italian dressing, or broccoli with cheese sauce is so satisfying. I did the diet three years ago and kept the weight off so far. I eat a lot more of vegetables than I ever did, and a lot less of pasta, rice, potato chips, and cake.

Does whole wheat bread make you gain weight?

AIGHT, so i’m 14. & i’m eating healthy, excercising. just want to lose a few pounds for summer! woo. haha anyway i was wondering if eating whole wheat bread fatty? some

Answer:

the low-carb idea is complete nonsense and is believed by fools who are gullible enough to believe Dr Atkins. You need about 40% carbs in your diet, that is wholemeal bread, pasta, rice, things like that. This is for energy and growth. at 14 you should not be worrying about how you look in your bikini. A bit of common sense will tell you if your weight is ok, and will also tell you if you are eating properly. it’s not a matter of how much you are ‘allowed’, it is eating in proportion with how much food you burn off. At 14 you need a good healthy food intake, dieting now can stunt your growth and stop you ever having kids. only fools diet. People with brains eat healthily and move..***:D

Can someone explain the phases of the atkins diet?

can someone please explain what happens in the induction, ongoing wight loss, pre maintenance and lifetime maintanence phases in the atkins diet

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

Well, you could get the book and read it and it would be a lot easier. I’ll try and remember what all the difference are. In the induction phase you are limited in what you can eat, you have to clean out your body and reach ketosis, this is 2 weeks. Limited on nuts, cheeses, certain meats, veggies. For the ongoing phase you add in some nuts, some veggies, organ meats, hard cheese and a few other things, oh and some of Atkins own foods, this is supposed to go on until you reach your goal. I don’t remember their being a pre maintenance phase, but on the lifetime maintenance phase you added in some carbs to keep your weight steady.

Less extreme versions of the Atkins diet?

Any suggestions? I think I’m starting to feel the effects of ketosis (excess body fat being burned), but I also just felt some very painful joint pain around my wrist. :/ This is probably down to lack of vitamin C, like in scurvy? Are there any less extreme versions of Atkins that are still low-carb?

Answer:

Buy the book, or read their website thoroughly. They show you how to get lots of nutrition and have a balanced diet. Don’t call it the atkins if you arent doing the atkins (you know the acual way its supposed to be done).

how much weight did u lose in the induction phase of Atkins diet?

Im on the atkins induction phase, I have lost about 10 lbs in 2 weeks, is this normal for Atkins? How much did some of you lose?

This question was not answered by a nutritionist, however another user commented.

Answer:

It depends on your metabolism and how much you need to lose, but that would be considered pretty normal for a fairly heavy person. Keep in mind that the loss WILL slow down. Don’t get discouraged, though.

Answer:

If you cut your carbs down, you will lose weight. You’ll be consuming less glucose, which means your body won’t produce as much fat-storing insulin to lower blood sugar. It will work. But to keep the weight off, do not go back to eating junk food.
